Marijuana Legalization Defeated in California
Voters in California did not approve Proposition 19 to legalize marijuana use and sales, The Associated Press (AP) reports. The proposition would have allowed adults 21 and older to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana, to use it in nonpublic places as long children weren’t present and to grow it in small private plots. Also, local governments would have been able to permit commercial pot cultivation and the sale and use of marijuana at licensed facilities. Supporters hope to see the proposition on the ballot again in 2012. California does allow the sale and use of medical marijuana.
