HIV Awareness Summer Camps Serve Youth in Africa
Organizations throughout Africa have organized HIV/AIDS awareness summer camps for youth, Voice of America (VOA) reports. The U.S.-based nonprofit group Global Camps Africa, in partnership with Peace Corps volunteers and other local groups, runs Camp Sizanani. Kids participate in typical summer camp activities such as swimming, sports and arts and crafts, but they also get tested for HIV, are taught sex education and receive assistance to plan for their futures. The four-day camps are in more than 20 locations and serve more than 16,000 school children.
