Friday, June 8, is National Caribbean-American HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, the seventh annual observance to promote HIV awareness, education and testing throughout these communities. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 100,000 black adults and adolescents of Caribbean origin were diagnosed HIV positive from 2001 to 2007. During the awareness day, which falls during National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, the CDC will partner with national and local organizations on HIV prevention and education.
