An AIDS service organization in Chicago has been left without electricity and air conditioning after thieves vandalized the site to steal the copper found in its wiring and cooling units, Fox Chicago reports. Vital Bridges Center on Chronic Care, a division of Heartland Health Outreach, has been left scrambling to provide food, housing assistance, case management and counseling services to about 300 clients. Vandals cut the electric cables in the building and, in another instance, stole copper wire from an air conditioning unit on the roof. The electric cables have been replaced to restore electricity. The stolen copper is only worth a few hundred dollars, but the damages will cost nearly $50,000 to repair. Insurance will cover some but not all of the cost.
