HIV-Positive Chinese AIDS Activist Sentenced to One Year
Tian Xi, a Chinese AIDS activist, has been sentenced to one year in prison, M&C News reports. He was convicted in 2010 of intentional destruction of property because he dropped a teacup and office supplies at a hospital that wouldn’t provide him HIV treatment after he ran out of medicine. Tian has already spent six months detained. As a result, he should be released in August. Tian had been advocating for compensation for others who contracted HIV as he did, through contaminated blood supplies.
