A 27-year-old HIV-positive man in China’s southwestern Guizhou province is suing local authorities because they denied him a teaching position, mysinchew.com reports. The man passed a qualifying exam and a job interview but was allegedly barred from employment when he tested HIV positive. His lawyer argues that this violates multiple regulations, most notably the 2008 Law on Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, which forbids job discrimination against people with HIV. The local court has yet to accept the lawsuit. In 2010, the court ruled against the defendant in a similar case in China’s eastern Anhui province.
