Reps. Himes, Lee Introduce the Cure for AIDS Act

U.S. Representatives Jim Himes (D–Conn.) and Barbara Lee (D–Calif.) have introduced the Cure for AIDS Act (H.R. 6187), a bill to fund research and development for an HIV cure, according to a Himes statement. The legislation establishes a $100 million research program within the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program managed by the Department of Defense (DOD). A consortium of scientists, academic researchers, advocates and nonprofit organizations would work closely with the DOD to review cure proposals.

Interesting. I was going to ask why she'd enmesh it in the DOD. Then I remembered that the NIH is all but openly hostile towards the notion of a cure, with Fauci telling us weekly it isn't going to happen, and that the NIH as a whole is more interested in partnering with Gilead than offering real solutions anyways. This bill is going to have trouble taking flight but it shows us of an alternative to begging the NIH to give a sh*t about us. How can we support it?

I love Barbra Lee, she is one of the most extraordinary leaders in truth and action, yes to me a social justice icon for many , a great teacher, listener, and fierce motherly heart. Very interesting in the 100 million under the DOD. Very interesting and my network supports this action, simply because of the trust in her leadership. However D.C and with DOD. At first DOD must have a problem with HIV in the ranks of alliance defense. The good news is competition for a cure.
