The Obama administration has made a $4 billion donation to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a 38 percent increase over the last donation, said Ambassador Eric Goosby, U.S. global AIDS coordinator. The United States, which is calling on reforms to make the fund more efficient and accountable, will disperse the money over the next three years. The United States is the largest contributor to the fund. Health GAP, which seeks universal access to care for people living with HIV, criticized the donation as inadequate. Health GAP is calling for an additional $1 billion. Goosby said the United States will re-evaluate its commitment when funding expires in 2013.
