USAID to Help Private Sector Financing for HIV in Ethiopia
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a new initiative to secure additional funding for people living with HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia, according to a USAID statement. The Development Credit Authority, a tool that USAID uses to stimulate lending through partial credit guarantees, and the Department of State’s Office of the U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator will leverage private sector financing. About $2.3 million will support guarantees to local banks that should unleash about $13.5 million for AIDS assistance. About 1.1 million Ethiopians are living with HIV/AIDS.
