Florida’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) waiting list grew to over 1,200 people in early January, according to a National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD) statement reported by the American Independent. ADAPs, which provide more than 226,000 lower-income Americans with HIV/AIDS medications, have been underfunded since 2010, and many states have had to establish waiting lists to contain costs. According to the NASTAD report, “The demand for ADAP has not dwindled, and ADAP waiting lists will likely plateau and grow again in the coming months.” Even ADAPs that don’t currently employ waiting lists are considering doing so to cut costs.
