GMHC's 30th Anniversary Gala

Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) commemorated its 30th anniversary with a fund-raising gala on April 18 at Gotham Hall in New York City. To help the organization celebrate three decades of service to the HIV/AIDS-affected community throughout the five boroughs, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Mary Louise Parker hosted an evening filled with awards, praise and congratulatory messages.

Marjorie Hill, PhD, the group’s CEO, honored founders Larry Kramer and Lawrence Mass, MD, who were in attendance, and acknowledged the organization’s additional four founders—three of whom died due to the disease. The Duane Reade Charitable Foundation received the Corporate Leadership Award, and the Rudin Family was bestowed the Judith Peabody Humanitarian Award for their years of philanthropic support.

Also at the gala were: the honorable David Dinkins (former mayor of New York); actor BD Wong from Law & Order: SVU; fashion designer and Project Runway All Stars judge Isaac Mizrahi; William Wackermann, the executive vice president of Condé Nast; Bob Tuschman, president of the Food Network; How to Survive a Plague filmmaker David France; and Peter Lichtenthal, president of Bumble & Bumble.

Ellen Degeneres and New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn were unable to make the event but sent personal videos in their place.
