Global Fund Freezes Its Grants for China
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria froze payments on its millions of dollars of grants to China because of disputes between the organization and the Chinese government, The New York Times reports. The suspension follows a growing international debate on whether China should receive aid for public health issues. In addition, there are concerns that Global Fund monies were not properly monitored and allocated. Since 2003 China has received $539 million from the Global Fund.
