20 Countries Risk Running Out of ARV Supplies, Says Global Fund
A Global Fund (GF) report identified 20 countries’ risks of running out of stocks of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs), according to AllAfrica.com. GF executive director Michel Kazatchkine told the board that GF has been active in supplying ARVs to one country that has major supply shortages of ARVs, although he wanted to keep the country anonymous. He added that the fund is working with 19 other countries to monitor medicine supply levels while reassessing ways to obtain emergency stock. The stock-outs result from poor forecasting, increasing patient enrollment and long procurement processes. The report also covered a host of global HIV/AIDS issues, including ARV theft, fund-raising and prevention of mother-to-child transmission.
