H1N1 Virus Enters Post-Pandemic Phase
The H1N1 virus, a.k.a. “swine flu,” is no longer classified as a pandemic, according to a World Health Organization statement. It is now in a post-pandemic period, which means it will continue to circulate but in ways similar to seasonal flu. The WHO warns that H1N1 might still cause serious disease in at-risk groups. People living with HIV are at high risk for flu-related complications. Nasal mist H1N1 vaccines made with the live version of the virus could be dangerous to people with compromised immune systems.
