(No) Chill Pill
The protease inhibitor Norvir emerges in a new form.
Norvir (ritonavir), an HIV med used in low dose to boost other protease inhibitors, has been approved in tablet form. Unlike the gel cap, the tab doesn’t require refrigeration. Many positive people had hoped a tablet might cause fewer gastrointestinal side effects than the gel cap. The new version has to be taken with food, though, and, according to the FDA, may temporarily cause increased GI side effects in people switching from the old version. (For details, search “FDA Approves Heat-Stable Norvir Tablets” at poz.com.)
Let us know how you do if you switch to the new Norvir tablet: E-mail news@poz.com with “Norvir tablet” in the subject line.
