Rapid HIV testing will now be available in at least one Washington, DC, Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office, The Washington Post reports. In what officials say is the first effort of its kind nationwide, a nonprofit group is offering DC residents a rapid HIV test while they are at the DMV. Those who get tested receive $15 to offset the cost of DMV services. Immediate counseling and medical attention are offered if needed. Currently, 3 percent of DC residents have HIV/AIDS, much higher than the 1 percent considered to be an epidemic. Officials hope to test about 3,000 people annually.
