Sex Week Spreads HIV Awareness at Universities
Harvard University hosted its first Sex Week—a student-run program of lectures and panel discussions—to instruct students on safer sex, rape prevention and sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDS, The New York Times reports. Other colleges around the country such as Yale, Brown, Northeastern, the University of Kentucky, Indiana University and Washington University hold similar events as a response to student concerns that classroom lessons in sexuality are inadequate. Sex weeks face opposition from college administrations, alumni and fellow students who don’t think university resources should be used to promote sexual activity.
