April 17 is World Hemophilia Day, a global awareness day for people with bleeding disorders. “Be inspired, get involved in treatment for all” is the theme for 2011. About 1 in 10,000 people are born with hemophilia. Before the blood supply was screened for HIV in the early years of the AIDS epidemic, thousands of hemophiliacs contracted HIV through the blood transfusions they needed to treat their disease.
