HIV/AIDS Activist Herbert Spiers Dies
Herbert Spiers, an HIV-positive activist for both LGBT and HIV/AIDS issues, died March 2 of cancer, OutHistory.org reports. He was 65 years old. In the 1970s, Spiers was a founding member of Toronto Gay Action, a gay liberation group, and The Body Politic, a gay liberation periodical. In the 1980s, Spiers was a founding member of ACT UP New York and headed the committee that analyzed the group’s medical and political priorities. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SurvivorshipAtoZ.org.
