HIV/AIDS Is a Risk Factor Among Homeless Veterans

Homeless veterans are more than 20 percent more likely to die on the streets than homeless nonveterans, according to a statement from the 100,000 Homes Campaign. The data are based on surveys of more than 13,000 homeless Americans nationwide to identify the most vulnerable and prioritize them for housing. Vulnerability is based on eight conditions—including HIV/AIDS—associated with elevated risk of mortality. More than half of homeless veterans are considered vulnerable.
