Primary school children between ages 6 and 11 in Malaysia will be given comprehensive sex education starting in 2011, AFP reports. The new curriculum is expected to help reduce the number of sex partners, unwanted pregnancies, HIV cases and “baby dumping,” in which infants are left to die in toilets and garbage bins (as of September, 70 such incidents have been reported this year). These sex ed courses have been designed with the help of parents and civil society groups. Children at secondary schools were already scheduled to be taught the curriculum in 2011.
