Kamiar Alaei, a physician internationally recognized for his HIV prevention efforts, hopes his brother, Arash Alaei, will soon be released from jail, Radio Free Europe reports. The Alaei brothers, who pioneered harm-reduction programs in Iran, were both jailed in 2008 after being charged for crimes that included an attempted government overthrow. Kamiar Alaei, who was released a few months ago, has said the brothers are not involved in politics and are only focused on health. He also said his brother should be eligible for release since he has completed half his term and is a first-time offender.
