Although Japan has increased its role in the fight against HIV/AIDS abroad, it needs to do more at home, according to Michel Sidibe, executive director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), The Japan Times reports. While Japan is the fourth-largest contributor to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, its overall HIV rate has only just stabilized after increasing steadily for a decade. The HIV rate among Japanese men who have sex with men continues to rise.
