A six-month-old pilot program in western Kenya to integrate HIV care into the public health care system could go national, PlusNews reports. HIV-only "comprehensive care clinics" in area hospitals have been closed and the services folded into the regular health care system. This has eased pressure on hospital staff and reduced stigma among HIV-positive patients by allowing them to obtain medications discreetly from their doctors. Local health care workers report that more HIV-positive people are seeking treatment and that drug adherence among their patients is improving.
