A rare HIV transmission case: A man in Taiwan contracted HIV as a result of blood-to-blood contact in a fight with a knife-wielding mugger, aidsmap.com reports. Blood-to-blood HIV transmission via fistfights has been reported in the past, but investigators believe this is the first official case of HIV transmission through a knife fight. The man tested negative for HIV a month after the fight, but tested positive four months later. His wife and the blood donors for his post-fight surgery were ruled out as modes of transmission because they are HIV negative. The attacker has the same HIV subtype.
