Los Angeles to Vote on Condoms in Adult Films
Los Angeles voters who cast ballots in the June presidential primary may also be asked whether the city should require adult film actors to wear condoms during sex scenes, The New York Times reports. The measure would also issue fees and inspections to make sure that Los Angeles-based adult film studios comply. Although the measure has gathered nearly double the requisite number of signatures to make the ballot, legal challenges may stop a vote from taking place, since it is unclear if city voters have the authority to mandate such regulations that are usually decided at the state level. Critics of the measure argue that it would be impossible to enforce and would result in adult film jobs moving beyond city lines. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has been the main supporter of mandating condom use in porn.
