St. Louis Mardi Gras Couple Guilty of HIV Felony Seek New Trial
A St. Louis couple found guilty of knowingly exposing
another person to HIV, a felony that carries a possible 15-year prison term,
are seeking a new trial, St. Louis Today reports. Kerry Lynn Hanson and his
girlfriend, Angela Marie Niemczyk, were found guilty after allegedly engaging
in a foursome with an 18-year-old woman and her boyfriend at a Mardi Gras party
in St. Louis. Neither Hanson nor Niemczyk disclosed that Hanson was HIV
positive at the time of the encounter. Days later, the 18-year-old woman
learned of Hanson’s status and was subsequently tested. She has never tested
positive for HIV. Hanson and Niemczyk have said that Hanson and the woman never
actually had sex and the charges are false.

Waitaminute. So the couple was found guilty, which meant they had to endure a trial and suffer legal expenses... and there is no proof that the guy with HIV and the woman ever even had sex?! If I wrote a check to Lambda Legal every time I read one of these articles about amazingly ridiculous witch hunts people find themselves subjected to, I'd be broke. I'm writing another check anyway.

Wait, so now a person that is negative is brought up on charges because she didn't disclose that someone else is positive? where will this stop? I am tired of people in this country blaming everyone else instead of taking personal responsibility for their actions.
