Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Ruled Illegal in Michigan

A three-judge panel of the Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled that medical marijuana dispensaries are illegal, mlive.com reports. In 2008 voters approved Proposal 1, which allows people with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other conditions to cultivate, possess and use cannabis without fear of prosecution under state law—however, the law doesn’t allow for selling marijuana. The panel ruled that Compassionate Apothecary, a dispensary in Mount Pleasant that sells patient-to-patient, could be shut down because it possessed and sold excessive amounts of the drug. The law allows a caregiver to personally grow up to 72 plants and provide for five other patients.
