Mother-Baby ARV Packs Fight Pediatric HIV in Kenya

New mother-baby antiretroviral (ARV) medication packs are being distributed in Kenya with the hope of eliminating pediatric HIV from the country by 2015, PlusNews reports. The color-coded and easy-to-use packs contain medications for pregnant women to administer themselves during pregnancy, labor and delivery. Health workers from the Kenyan government and UNICEF will distribute the medications to pregnant women with HIV who do not yet need ARVs for themselves but may not return to a clinic following their diagnosis. The packs will be available in four districts in the two provinces of Kenya that account for 50 percent of all children with HIV nationwide.
