NYC Physician in HIV Medicaid Scam Sentenced to Prison
New York City doctor has been convicted of scamming
Medicaid out of $700,000 by prescribing HIV meds for people who did not have
the virus, The Associated Press (AP) reports. Suresh Hemrajani, MD, was
sentenced to two to six years behind bars for charges that include grand
larceny. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office said Hemrajani billed
Medicaid for treatment he didn’t actually provide and prescribed HIV
medications without determining whether the patients were positive. The
patients then traded drugs for cash from middlemen. Thirty patients have been
