Ohio Man With HIV Gets Three Years for Unprotected Sex
A 23-year-old man from Ohio was sentenced to three years in prison for having unprotected sex with a woman while knowingly being HIV positive, The Vindicator reports. Randal Brown, who contracted HIV at birth and has known of his status since he was 15, was involved in a sexual relationship with a 20-year-old woman starting in December 2010. The woman reportedly became ill last July, and shortly after that Brown told her of his HIV status. A presentence investigation recommended Brown serve no jail time but be released on probation. The prosecutor wanted Brown to be labeled and registered as a sex offender upon his release from prison, but that provision was not included in the plea agreement.
