Judge Temporarily Blocks Ohio ADAP Eligibility Cuts

A judge has temporarily blocked changes to Ohio rules that would greatly reduce eligibility for the state’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), The Associated Press (AP) reports. Three HIV-positive people filed the case to halt the state from implementing new rules to limit medical and financial eligibility for low-income, uninsured or underinsured Ohioans who need HIV meds. Opponents of the new ADAP rules argue that they will cost lives by capping enrollment, dropping patients, instituting waiting lists, lowering the income ceiling for eligibility and no longer covering certain drugs or tests. They also say the rules weren’t properly adopted. A hearing has been set for November 15.
