Gay or bisexual men looking for a long-term partner or relationship online are more likely to engage in safe sex than men who are strictly searching for a sexual encounter, redOrbit reports. Studies conducted by the University of Michigan School of Public Health’s Sexuality and Health Research Lab identified four categories of online dating ranging from one-night stands to partnerships and then determined the risky behaviors associated with each. Most current studies look at sex-only Internet hookups, which are predictably riskier. Jose Bauermeister, assistant professor, believes the new findings will help HIV-prevention counselors design better interventions, such as those that emphasize relationships in HIV prevention.
