The Obama administration’s new national HIV/AIDS strategy was inspired by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) launched by George W. Bush in 2003, The Associated Press reports. PEPFAR mostly assists African countries in combating their HIV/AIDS epidemics. The domestic strategy draws upon the lessons learned from PEPFAR, especially the value of coordinating between private, public, regional, state and local entities.
