Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon (PRRR) is a new partnership hoping for commitments of $75 million in public and private contributions over five years to provide screening and treatment for cervical and breast cancer in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa, according to a statement from Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a PRRR member. The other PRRR members include the George W. Bush Institute, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). HIV-positive women are especially at risk of getting cervical cancer. Through PEPFAR, cervical cancer screenings already occur at more than 250 clinics in 11 African nations. Since breast cancer has not been linked to HIV, no PEPFAR funds will go directly toward it.
