HIV-Positive Porn Actor Supports Mandatory Condom Use

Previously known as “Patient Zeta,” the adult film actor who tested HIV positive in October has revealed his identity as Derrick Burts, 24, of Riverside, California, the Los Angeles Times reports. He now supports mandatory condom use in porn films. Burts, who performed in straight films as “Cameron Reid” and gay films as “Derek Chambers,” was diagnosed with the virus by the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM).

Afterward, he sought care from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF)—which advocates for mandatory condom use in porn films—and was so pleased by the treatment he received that he is now speaking out on their behalf. “AIM likes to state that testing is enough—that’s completely false,” said Burts, who believes he may have contracted HIV from oral sex on a gay porn shoot. Months before he tested HIV positive, he also contracted chlamydia, gonorrhea and herpes. His HIV diagnosis caused a temporary shutdown of the porn industry.
