The National AIDS Trust in the United Kingdom has published a report highlighting the potential for misusing the Recent Infection Testing Algorithm (RITA) HIV test with regard to criminalization of HIV transmission, according to UNAIDS. The RITA test is used to estimate whether an HIV-positive person was infected within the previous six months. The report warns that the RITA test results are unreliable and should not be used as evidence in HIV criminalization cases. The report is aimed at professionals in the criminal justice system and HIV specialists who may be called as expert witnesses.
