Today The Washington Post profiled POZ’s May 2008 cover subject, here! network’s podcast host and performer Sherri Lewis.

The article, “For HIV Survivor, a Passion for Prevention,” reflected on Lewis’s eclectic life, including her stardom as lead singer of ’80s band Get Wet, her crippling heroin addiction, her 1987 HIV diagnosis and her calling to become an AIDS activist.

Now, Lewis, 55, lives in West Hollywood with her two dogs and is the host of here! network’s podcast Queer Girl in a Straight World. “The gift of a terminal illness,” Lewis told The Washington Post. “It is that you embrace each day. You don’t call in sick, and you don’t look back.”

In October, she performed in Sheryl Lee Ralph’s show Divas and on December 1, she performed at Bacharach to the Future, POZ’s World AIDS Day benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
