If your knowledge of Swedish pop music stops somewhere around ABBA, listen up. Andreas Lundstedt of the Swedish disco group Alcazar—whose hits include “Crying at the Discotheque” and “Sinner Not a Saint”—announced to the world this past December that he is HIV positive. Lundstedt joined the ranks of other openly positive musicians such as Chuck Panozzo of Styx, Andy Bell of Erasure and the late Freddie Mercury of Queen.

Lundstedt disclosed his status to Swedish gay magazine QX, saying, “I feel great. This is nothing that affects my daily life.” He said he hopes other recording artists living with HIV will follow his lead: “I know there are more people in my industry who have it. And it’s just a shame that it’s a taboo issue.”
