Elizabeth Taylor’s extensive collection of jewelry fetched a record-breaking $115 million on the first night of auction at Christie’s in New York City, The Associated Press (AP) reports. Of the 80 jewels that were up for sale, 24 sold for over $1 million and six took in more than $5 million each. La Peregrina, a pearl, diamond and ruby necklace, reached a world-record price for pearls by garnering $11,842,500. Clothing, accessories, art and various other memorabilia will sell throughout the week. Some of the proceeds from the auction will go to the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.
