Tennessee Law Forbids Promotion of 'Gateway Sexual Activities'
A new law in Tennessee says that educators can no longer teach so-called “gateway sexual activity” such as touching genitals, Reuters reports. The law does not ban kissing or holding hands from discussion in sex education classes but addresses the touching of certain “gateway body parts,” including genitals, buttocks, breasts and the inner thigh. Tennessee teachers could be disciplined, and speakers from groups like Planned Parenthood could face fines of up to $500. Critics say the legislation is too vague and could impede discussion about safer sexual behavior.
