HIV-Positive Chinese AIDS Activist Released From Prison
Chinese HIV/AIDS activist Tian Xi has been released from jail after serving a one-year sentence, Monsters and Critics (M&C) reports. He was convicted in 2010 for the “intentional destruction of property” during an argument at a hospital that would not provide him with HIV treatment. Tian contracted HIV when he was 10 from a blood transfusion. In recent years, he has been an advocate for the hundreds of thousands of people who contracted HIV through government-run or illegal blood-selling schemes. No special conditions, such as house arrest, were attached to his release.
