UN Secretary General Urges Nations to Fight HIV in Women
At a recent UN meeting on gender equality and the advancement of women, Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon encouraged nations to invest more funds in nutrition, job opportunities and health care, including HIV care, for women around the world, the Associated Press/PR-Inside.com reports (pr-inside.com, 3/7).
“Investing in women helps us fight all the challenges of our time, from poverty, hunger and illiteracy to environmental degradation and disease, including HIV/AIDS,” Secretary General Ki-Moon said.
Ki-Moon made these remarks on March 8, in advance of March 10, which marks International Women’s Day. In addition to asking for lifestyle and health care support for women, UN officials urged countries to renew their efforts to end rape, forced prostitution and other forms of violence against women.
