The Parliament of Uganda, the African nation’s chief legislative body, has adjourned without voting on the pending Anti-Homosexuality Bill, according to a statement by the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC). For nearly two years, significant international pressure has kept the bill from being passed, which would impose the death penalty on “active homosexuals” with HIV. The bill may be reintroduced during the Parliament’s next session, which opens May 18.
