Report: 2010 Goal of Universal Access Remains Unmet
The goal of universal access by the end of 2010 to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care will not be met, according to a joint report by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and UNICEF and reported by Agence France Presse (AFP). Universal access is defined as access for 80 percent of the global HIV-positive population. Of the 183 nations covered in the report, only one third have access to antiretroviral medications in 2010. Officials are now seeking universal access by 2015.
