POZ held a cocktail reception at the Hotel Altstadt in Vienna on Monday, July 19, to showcase the exhibit In the Face of Affliction by photographer Joan Lobis Brown. Her images are part of a visual study where nearly 900 people living with—and affected by—HIV/AIDS from 83 countries were photographed reacting to the stigma surrounding the virus. Some of the images in the exhibit were featured in the July/August 2010 issue of POZ.

Brown took the images at two medical clinics in Cape Town in 2009. The HIV status of the subjects is unknown.

The special exhibit of Brown’s work will be on display July 18 to 23 in Vienna during the XVIII International AIDS Conference at the Hotel Altstadt.
