ViiV Grants $2 Million in Venture With Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
ViiV Healthcare and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) formed a partnership to improve pediatric HIV/AIDS treatment and early diagnosis in three South African countries.
ViiV has committed $2 million over a two-year period to the partnership, which is focused on Lesotho, Malawi and Swaziland, all countries with particularly high incidence of HIV.
About 1,200 children worldwide are newly diagnosed with HIV every day, and about half of them will die unless they receive early diagnosis and treatment.
The partnership’s strategy includes increasing early HIV detection and HIV-positive children’s access to treatment, designing better government frameworks around pediatric HIV/AIDS and making better use of pediatric care and treatment data. The partnership also will support efforts to address policy barriers surrounding HIV/AIDS pediatric care and treatment.
