San Francisco municipal drinking water may not be safe for people with HIV/AIDS, SF Weekly reports. The city’s water is piped from Yosemite National Park and then treated with chloramines and radiated with ultraviolet light. However, unlike most treatment plants, the water is not filtered, which can leave behind microorganisms such as protozoans that can cause giardia and cryptosporidiosis. The LGBT Center on Market Street has filtered its tap water since 2002 to protect its HIV-positive clients from impurities in the water.
