Funding of $9.9 million will support HIV services in 22 community health centers in four states, according to a statement from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The funding comes through the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. the health care reform law, or ACA) and the HHS Secretary’s Minority AIDS Initiative Fund (SMAIF). The health centers are located in Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland and New York.

Through a three-year partnership between the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and HRSA, HIV services will be integrated into primary care between HRSA-funded health centers and CDC-funded state health departments.

The care will come from 36 HIV Care Teams consisting of one primary care provider trained in HIV care and at least two other service providers. According to HRSA, about 8,000 people living with HIV will receive access to expanded services.
