Usaam Auf Mukwaya, a Ugandan HIV activist, has been missing since last Friday, reports the Pink News (pinknews.com, 7/28).

According to the article, a fellow activist says that three men dressed in police uniforms pulled them over and demanded that Mukwaya get out of the car—he has not been seen since. The activists were on their way back from worshipping at a mosque.

Mukwaya may have been taken because of his involvement last month at a public demonstration outside the HIV/AIDS Implementer’s Meeting. The protest was against the head of Uganda’s AIDS Commission, who had blamed gays for the rise in HIV rates and had refused to allot money for prevention among men who have sex with men (MSM).

The local police have yet to comment on Mukwaya’s whereabouts.
